We all love SUVs. But it even gets better when the SUV is delicately styled, fast, and powerful. Leasing sporty luxury SUVs are trendy amongst auto shoppers these days. The Mercedes Benz GLE Coupe and the BMW X6 are the top SUVs most shoppers always go for.
While the modern coupe-SUVs started from the BMW X6, other brands, including the Mercedes Benz, were quick to copy this style. Years later, we have GLE coupe competing with the X6 in the same class. Although the 2022 BMW X6 and the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE coupe offer luxury and style, their approach differs. So, which makes for a more stylish SUV between leasing the X6 and leasing the GLE coupe?
What’s New?
The BMW X6 is an offshoot of the brand’s X5, with a sloped roof to give it a unique look at the expense of SUV practicality. Now in its third generation, which first debuted in 2020, the new BMW X6 comes with minor changes for the 2022 model year. BMW gets rid of the rear-wheel-drive sDrive 40i trim, making the 2022 X6 lineup exclusively an all-wheel-drive (xDrive).
Other minor changes in the 2022 X6 include the removal of wireless charging from standard features and the addition of enhanced Bluetooth. The X6 also gets more available packages and tweaked option packages. While the Convenience package is no longer offered for the xDrive40i trim, the contents of the Convenience package have been removed from Premium and Executive packages. Also, the new X6 gets three new paint colors, including a Sparkling Brown Metallic and Dravit Grey Metallic. Finally, the new Climate Comfort package now packs four-zone climate control, heated armrests and steering wheel, and front and rear heated seats.
Talk about leasing a great luxury midsize SUV that ticks nearly all the right boxes, and you have the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE lease deal. After BMW, Mercedes Benz were the earliest adopters of the fastback, coupe-styled SUVs. The GLE coupe, now in its second generation that debuted in 2020, offers an exceptional level of luxury, refinement, technology, and driving engagement.
For 2022, GLE comes with a few minor changes. Last year, Mercedes Benz moved to expand the GLE’s lineup, offering the performance-focused AMG GLE 53 and 63 S variants. This year, we are not certain if Mercedes Benz is still on course to expand the GLE’s lineup as the GLE 63 S trim is no longer part of the 2022 GLE lineup. Other minor changes included the new automatic high beams now being standard. Also, leasing the 2022 GLE now gives you a chance to choose between the new two-tone Espresso Brown-and-black or white-and-black leather upholstery schemes.
Power And Transmission
The new X6 and the GLE coupe offer robust engines with incredible power, excellent torque, automatic gearboxes, and all-wheel drive. However, if you want something that offers more power and torque, you should consider settling with the 2022 BMW X6 lease deal.
The transmission is different. While 2022 X6 uses a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic, the 2022 GLE uses a responsive nine-speed auto.
The 2022 BMW xDrive40i comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that coughs out 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. Higher up, the M50i model gets a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that churns out 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The higher performance uses the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and tunes it to pump out massive 600 hp.
Mercedes Benz equipped the 2022 GLE with a variety of powertrain options. The base model comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 255 hp and 273 lb-ft. Higher up is the GLE450 with a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six and 48-volt mild-hybrid system that delivers 362 hp and 369 lb-ft. Next up is the GLE580 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and mild hybrid system that coughs out 483 hp and 516 lb-ft. Finally, the high-performance GLE 53 with turbocharged and supercharged inline-six delivers 429 hp.
Handling And Performance
The new X6 and the GLE coupe offer the best sporty luxury SUVs you can lease today. But if you want something slightly sportier to drive, leasing the 2022 BMW X6 will give you just that.
The X6 is slightly quicker than the GLE. It handles exceptionally well with quick and responsive steering, firm brakes, and minimal body roll. However, the GLE is more comfortable and offers a smoother and more relaxing ride, thanks to its adaptive suspension that diligently soaks up road imperfections.
Fuel Economy
Both SUVs offer decent fuel economy numbers for their segment. The Bimmer earns 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with the xDrive40i, 16/22 mpg city/highway with the M50i, and 13/18 mpg with the X6M. In contrast, the 2022 GLE gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with the GLE350, 21/26 mpg city/highway with GLE450, and 17-18/22 mpg with the GLE580 and GLE53 models.
Interior
In this segment, comfort, style, and refinement are rated above many other qualities, and this is where the 2022 GLE bests the 2022 X6.
On the inside, both sporty premium SUVs offer modern and classy interiors—one of the best in the class. The fit and finish are remarkable. However, the GLE offers a more refined cabin, better tech features, spacious seats, and better cargo space.
Cost
The 2022 BMW X6 is a lot more affordable than the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE
